Our current Editor is looking for an enthusiastic potential successor willing to learn at least some of the mysteries involved in the production of our journal. The current role could be divided on an agreed basis, with an initial guru/apprentice approach enabling a gradual shift of responsibility. Previous successful experience of this type of role would be very welcome, but not essential. However, as with all our vacancies, being able to allocate a few hours weekly, and being willing to commit is of the most importance.
Fancy dipping a toe?
Our field trips have ground to a halt for a variety of reasons.
Perhaps the time has come for a change of approach, mixing outdoor with indoor activities. No progress will be made unless a willing organiser is found.
Could this be YOU? Our PAST TRIPS page gives a flavour of previous events. Stout boots, map and weatherproofs probably required, but fresh ideas of major importance.
A different approach, reducing exposure to our unpredicatable climate, might revive enthusiasm. Are you the one to usher in a new kind of one-day adventure?
A project awaiting take-off is the recording and transcribing of reminiscences from ex-railway employees whose knowledge and experiences would be of interest to current and future generations.
Recording equipment available. Broadcasting quality interviewing technique not required on day one. Enthusiasm and an interest in railways essential. Good bedside manner beneficial. A truly worthwhile fresh venture by the CRA - when a Volunteer can be found.
Our Benchmark photographic survey has resulted in much activity by a small number of individuals. Several parts of Cumbria await the visit of a capable cameraperson to record the current railway scene before it is lost in the name of progress.
There could be an Unallocated Uncovered Area near YOU
Have camera, enjoy a mission? This could be it!
JOB COMPLETED!
This job calls for someone to look at proposed publications and give advice on the synopsis of the work, ensuring that a wide remit is fixed. With many of our books, sales would not have been so great if we concentrated on the railway history alone. To increase possible sales, industrial and local history should be covered as well as the railway story. A spin-off from this method also puts the railway into context with the wider world.
The successful applicant will monitor progress on projects, applying subtle encouragement where progress is faltering.
The CRA is looking for a volunteer to administer its Facebook page. The role involves posting forthcoming meetings or events, both CRA and other appropriate Cumbrian-based where the CRA may have a presence (eg model railway exhibitions), highlighting current news about railways in Cumbria and North Lancs, and keeping the Facebook page fresh with CRA photographs etc. Also ensuring that any posts or questions by members or non-members are either answered promptly or forwarded to the appropriate CRA officer for a response.
For most of our members, a chance to acquire further street-credibility, not to mention impressing the Grandchildren. However, no minimum age or dependents requirement.
Please contact our Secretary from HERE should you be interested in, or require further details of, any or all of the above roles.
All positions benefit from our Standard Benefits Package: No Salary, No Perks, No Pension. However....reasonable expenses reimbursed and opinions welcomed.
Come join us. Lighten the Load. Add some ideas.
Your Webmaster expressed a wish to pass the role on to a new person some 12 months ago. Sadly, no interest has been expressed.
The situation cannot remain forever in limbo awaiting a new incumbant. Whether the existing obviously "Home Made" format is continued, or whether the slate is wiped clean, the CRA needs someone to take charge of the present setup then do their own thing in due course. Guidance and Direction from Management will be minimal. Qualities needed boil down to a 'can-do' or 'can-find-out' attitude. The current webmaster would be overjoyed to engage in correspondence with anyone, young, old or ancient, male or female or whatever, who has some spare time and a niggling need for a project. Fear of wrecking the website is understandable, but the computer does exactly what it is instructed to, so if the wheels fall off, its down to the last thing you altered...normally. Once the first goof has been solved, the worry will dissipate. Charles Blondin must have fallen off his tightrope a few times before mastering Niagara!
All (any?) queries will be answered.
