RESOURCES AND SERVICES
These pages will be developed to provide a guide for access to the Cumbrian Railways Association's extensive collections of archives and photographs.
Archive Collections
The CRA's archive collection is deposited at Kendal Archive Centre, County Offices, Kendal, LA9 4RQ. For information about access and services please click HERE. You may also search for Cumbrian rail-related archive material (including the CRA collections). A wide selection of Cumbrian images, including railways and related subjects, can be found on Cumbria County Council's IMAGE BANK which is a fully searchable resource. Use the menu link to see further details of the CRA and other Archives
Drawings and Documents
The Association is fortunate in having a large collection of drawings and other documents which are available for researchers and modellers. Generally these are deposited with the archive collections described above, but it is intended that a selection of these will be made available via this website - or in some instances that copies will be made available for direct sale.
Document Copy Service
The Association has a large collection of historical documents, mainly relating to operational issues, from which paper copies are available. Details of this new service can be found by following the 'DOCUMENT COPIES' link above.
Photograph Collections
The Association has a very extensive photographic library extending to over 35,000 images, and including railways in other parts of the UK (and parts of Europe) and shipping. A very substantial proportion of these have been or are being digitised with most images listed on a searchable database.

Click HERE for more information about the collection, photo listings, how to order prints or digital files and conditions of supply. If you have specific requirements please email our Archivist.

Photograph Archive
A selection of about 1000 of our digitised images are being mounted on our separate Zenfolio Photo Archive website. Small prints may be ordered directly from that site.
Family History - did a member of your family work on the railway?
With the increasing numbers of family history researchers, the Cumbrian Railways Association is developing a database of references to railway staff compiled from various sources. The database covers the mid-19th.century, and is updated whenever possible. Click HERE to access the database.
